LAMS Veterinary Guidelines for Protocol Transfers
For transferring animals form one protocol to another, please follow these instructions in addition to LAMS Husbandry procedures:
- There is a charge for all submitted Animal Transfer Protocol Forms (Internal LAMS Rate and External LAMS Rate). .
- Complete an Animal Transfer Protocol Form and submit to LAMS main office by the Animal Requisition Deadline, one week prior to desire transfer date.
- Please ensure form is completed in its entirety:
- Protocol and project numbers.
- Prior procedures performed: list any surgical procedures performed on the animal(s). If there were no prior procedures, please write “none” in the space provided.
- Number of animals, cages, sex and other animal related information.
- Signatures of both investigators.
- Fund numbers: please provide the fund number to be used for payment purposes. LAMS will not process the transfer without a fund number.
- Pain category: the PI who is receiving the animals must indicate the pain category that these animals will belong to under their protocol.
- Hazardous materials information.
- Indicate whether the PI or LAMS Staff is to transfer the cages.
- Approved transfers will appear on the animal delivery log for PI notification.
- Clearly mark all cages to be transferred with TRANSPORTATION tape provided by LAMS.
- The bottom portion of the bar coded cage card must be kept with the animals being transferred. The top portion should be submitted to the office, via red bar coded boxes, for deactivation.
- All protocol transfer animals attempting to enter CVC must go through quarantine, approximately 8 weeks. Once a LAMS Veterinarian reviews the sentinel data, the animals will be released from quarantine and transferred to CVC.
- Do not transfer animals to another PI without LAMS veterinary approval.
