LAMS Shipping Guidelines and Information


Guidelines for shipping mice

  1. Service Request: 
    1. Submit a Service/Equipment Request Form to LAMS office at least 24 business hours prior to shipping. 
    2. Specify number and type of crates, number of dividers and quantity of transportation gel packages (e.g. Hydrogel). 
    3. Prices  - shipping supplies obtained from LAMS will incur a charge.  Contact LAMS main office for current price.   
  2. Shipping crates:
    1. Large Shipping Container (22x16x8; Weight (empty) = 1.6 kg)
      1. If dividers are needed, 3 dividers make 4 compartments.
      2. 5 mice can occupy each compartment.
    2. Small Shipping Container (17.8x11.3x7.5; Weight (empty) = .84 kg)
      1. 1 compartment in a crate.
      2. 20 mice can occupy each container.
  3. Packing guidelines:
    1. Do not ship males in same compartment unless previously housed together. 
    2. Ship males and females in separate compartments to prevent unwanted breeding.
    3. Contact the receiving institution regarding the shipment of pregnant females and mice that are younger than 21 days.
  4. Labeling crates: 
    1. Address and contact information for sending institution.
    2. Address and contact information for receiving institution.
    3. Pertinent information to differentiate and identify valuable lines.
  5. Shipping Animals:
    1. Shipping within the United States
    2. Shipping outside of the United States
