LAMS Transportation
Guidelines:
LAMS can assist with the transporting of animals to and from UC’s animal facilities, CCHMC, Shriners, and/or VA.
Although LAMS prefers to transport animals at approximately 10:00 A.M. every Thursday, LAMS offers transportation services throughout the business week.
PI/lab personnel can transport animals at any time following UC’s IACUC Animal Transportation Policy.
Rodent shipments destined for non-UC institutions must be packed in shipping crates.
Primary contacts for transportation-
Standard Operating Procedures for shipping rodents from LAMS:
- Contact LAMS Quality Assurance Supervisor to send a copy of your animal colony’s most recent health report to the receiving institution.
- Contact receiving institution prior to shipment to confirm approval and arrival arrangements.
- Submit a LAMS Service/Equipment Request Form to LAMS office at least 24 business hours prior to ship date. (Link to shipping guidelines)
- Research staff members are responsible for preparing shipments for non-UC institutions.
- For shipments destined for other LAMS animal facilities, research staff members are responsible for labeling all cages with blue “TRANSPORT” tape.
Note: Ensure the bottom portion of the bar coded cage card remains on the cage/crate when shipping.
Animals must be brought to designated areas at least one hour before designated shipping time:
- CVC- Laundry Room
- GRI- Corridor in front of LAMS office
- Kettering- Site Dock
- MSB- Site Dock
- Vontz- Site Dock
