Available Cage Tags and Tape


Printed Tape

  • LAMS offers printed tape for your use.  This tape is non-residue and in most cases must be accompanied by an approved LAMS Service/Equipment Request.

  • Death Notice Cage Tag

  • If a dead animal is found, LAMS will complete a Death Notice.  The notice is left in the room for up to 72 hours.
  • Separation Notice Cage Tag

  • If animals must be separated for any reason (e.g. fighting, overcrowded), LAMS will complete a LAMS Separation Notice. The notice remains on the cage until removed by the researcher.
  • Veterinary Tags and Cage Cards

    “RA/RVT Check” Tag-

  • Placed on cage to direct vet staff to animal(s) with a health concern.
  • Tag must accompany an Animal Health Notification/Record form.  
  • These tags may only be removed by LAMS staff.
  • Health Problem Notice (HPN)-

  • Placed behind cage card by vet staff after veterinary assessment. 
  • The HPN must never leave the animal room.  If the animal(s) is euthanized, date the HPN with the euthanasia date and clip to the grey binder. 
  • Breeding Colony Tags and Cage Cards

    DOB Card

  • LAMS places on all breeding cages. 
  • Dead litters are noted with “FD” (found dead) next to the date of birth.
  • “DO NOT DISTURB FOR FIVE DAYS FROM DOB” Tag

  • LAMS places on cages with new litters. 
  • “TIME TO WEAN” Tag

  • LAMS places on cage when litters reach weaning.
  • Researchers are still responsible for monitoring breeding colonies daily.
  • “OVERCROWDED” Tag

  • LAMS places on cage when animal exceed weaning age.
  • LAMS may separate any overcrowded cage.
  • Used if cage is exceeding allotment of animals approved by UC IACUC Policy #001 or LAMS guidelines.
