How To Order Animals


  1. Submitting an Animal Requisition Form
    1. Fill out form in its entirety and submit to LAMS Business Office.  Please review LAMS guidelines for ordering from approved/unapproved vendors.  LINK to unapproved ordering and approved vendors.
    2. Orders  should be faxed to LAMS Business Office at 513-558-5599 which will automatically provide a time stamp. (LAMS Business Office will not accept Animal Requisitions that contains a protocol that expires within two weeks of the animal arrival date.)
    3. A Procurement Fee will be incurred for each order (Internal LAMS Rate and External LAMS Rate).

Note:  Jackson Laboratories orders must have a stock number included in the strain section on the Animal Requisition form.
  1.  Deadline for Submission
    1. Animals requested by the ordering deadline of midnight Tuesday will be delivered the following week.   However, vendors may need more than one week to fill orders with large numbers of animals or very specific requests (i.e. timed pregnant animals, exact age or weight requirements, unusual strains, etc.). 
    2. Late orders will be accepted until noon on Wednesday but will incur a late fee (Internal LAMS Rate and External LAMS Rate).    . 
  2. Standing Orders
    1. A standing order should be used to assure timely delivery of recurring animal orders.  
    2. Standing orders may be cancelled by 10:00am on Thursday prior to delivery but will incur a Change Order fee (Internal LAMS Rate and External LAMS Rate).   
    3. Standing orders can be reinstated at any time thereafter. 
  3. Animal Order Confirmation
    1. The LAMS delivery log will list the animal housing location, delivery date, vendor, and pertinent animal information.
    2. The delivery log will be emailed weekly after all animal orders are placed. 

Note: LAMS will contact the lab if the animals are unavailable from the vendor on the date requested. 

  1. Animal Delivery
    1. Large animal delivery days vary with vendor. 
    2. Rodents are delivered on Tuesdays during normal business weeks. 
    3. LAMS receives and houses all animals unless otherwise requested. 
    4. Unless otherwise approved by the IACUC, a minimum 48 hour acclimation period is required.    
Note: Any problems should be reported to LAMS immediately (e.g. incorrect strain, age, size, etc.). 
  1. Animal Order Billing
    1. Approved Vendor – LAMS will bill the PI grant/fund for animal cost, shipping, and any additional fees.   
    2. Unapproved Vendor – PI is responsible for animal cost and shipping fees
